On September 8, 1980, novelist and poet Lang Leav was born at a refugee camp in Thailand when her family were escaping the Khmer Rouge regime. Raised in Sydney, she pursued the arts in her later life despite the field being deemed impractical by the refugee community she belonged to. In 2012, she started sharing her poetry via Tumblr.
As she garnered a significant number of followers, she self-published her first collection of poetry and prose, Love and Misadventure. A surprise hit, she caught the attention of literary agents in New York and ultimately gained a publishing deal. Her second collection of poetry and prose, Lullabies, won the Goodreads Choice Award for Poetry.
In 2017, her debut novel, Sad Girls, came out, which reached atop the Straits Times Bestseller chart. Two years later, she released her second novel, Poemsia, also a certified Straits Times Bestseller. Her second novel also garnered more positive reviews than her debut. Her latest collection of poetry, September Love, was released in 2020.
