It’s hard to remain brave amid despicable horrors. It’s even harder to keep your faith when you live in constant fear. Anne Frank lived during a time where it was impossible to feel gratitude, and yet she did. Read these Anne Frank quotes to get an insight into her untainted soul.

Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. She lived most of her life in the Netherlands when she and her family relocated in 1934. The German occupation in the country in 1940 forced the Franks to go into hiding. For about two years, the family hid in some concealed rooms behind a bookcase in a building where Anne’s father, Otto Frank, worked.

Hiding in a confined space as the Nazis persecute the Jewish population, Frank turned to her writing for comfort. She wrote in her diary from June 1942 and continued writing regularly until her last entry on August 1, 1944. Anne and her family were arrested by the German police on August 4, 1944.

After being transported to the Auschwitz concentration camp, Anne and her sister, Margot, were separated from their father. Their mother died of starvation shortly after. Up until her death in February or March 1945, Frank worked in concentration camps with her sister. She is believed to have died of typhus. After the war, her diary found its way to her father, whose efforts led the diary’s first publication in 1947.

The first American version titled Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl was published in 1952. Anne Frank’s only book has since been translated into over 60 languages. With her posthumous success as an author, Anne Frank is one of the most discussed victims of the Holocaust.
