Born on January 11, 1885, Alice Stokes Paul was a well-known feminist and women’s rights activist. She played a vital role in the push for the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

In 1910, Paul became a leader of the suffragist movement and eventually formed the National Woman’s Party along with Lucy Burns. A few years later, she advocated and participated in the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, too.

In 1974, Paul suffered a stroke but that didn’t stop her from fighting for women’s rights. She died in Moorestown at the age of 92 on July 9, 1977.
