Alex Trebek was a popular game show host and television personality. He was born on July 22, 1940. Aspiring to pursue a career in broadcasting, he worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation while attending university. He finished a degree in philosophy.
In 1963, he landed his first hosting job on a music program called Music Hop. He went on to host several other shows on Canadian television before moving to the United States to work for NBC. There, he first hosted the game show The Wizard of Odds.
When Jeopardy! was revived in 1984, Trebek took up the hosting mantle and was the game show’s beloved host until his death in 2020, at the age of 80. Alongside other roles and projects on the small screen, he was a television staple for over 30 years.
Trebek was not only a prolific TV host, he was also a philanthropist and activist. He supported such charities as World Vision Canada and United Service Organizations. For all his TV achievements and philanthropy, he was named an Officer of the Order of Canada.
